Percy Jackson

The Percy Jackson books are my favorite books of all time! The first series (Percy Jackson & the Olympians) is about a boy named Percy Jackson who finds out he is a Greek demigod (half human half god). He is taken to a demigod camp called Camp Half-Blood where other demigods like him are trained to fight. He goes on many quests along with his loyal friends Grover and Annabeth and is more times than not almost killed in battle.

The second series (The Heroes of Olympus) also has Percy and his friends in it, but is also about the Roman version of Camp Half-Blood called Camp Jupiter. Percy mysteriously finds himself at Camp Jupiter with no memory, while a demigod from Camp Jupiter (Jason Grace) turns up at Camp Half-Blood with no memory. As their memories start coming back they can put together the pieces of the puzzle, get revenge on the person who did this to them and go back to their separate camps. Meanwhile, back at their actual camps their friends are worried and do what they can to get reunited their fellow campers. Yes, it seems like a demigod from each camp could just take a trip to the other and get their friend back, but its not that easy. Along the way they have many battles, but they also make some lifelong friendships as well.

Rick Riordan has written many other must-reads. These include The Trials of Apollo,  Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, The Kane Chronicles and many more! I recommend all of these books/series to fans of Harry Potter, The Mortal Instruments and pretty much any lover of fantasy books.

  1. I'm pulling out Christmas decorations and, based on your recommendation, I'm watching Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief on TV. Fun!

    1. If you like the movie you will like the books a whole lot better (if you haven't already read them)! However, you will also find that a lot of the facts are wrong in the movie. Annabeth has blond hair (in the movie it is brown), Percy yanks off the minotaur's horn (in the movie it gets stuck in a tree trunk) and it has a whole different plot.
